Water Committee

To make the water purification system sustainable, a water committee is established consisting of approximately three residents of the community who are chosen by the community leaders and the Aguayuda staff. Their responsibility is to provide the installation, maintenance and operation of the system. The water committee members need to have the respect of the community as well as exhibit responsibility, intelligence and an acceptable work ethic.

We will create a manual for the water committee that will include at a minimum the following topics:

  • Explanation of the components of the water purification system
  • Operation of the water purification system
  • Understanding and completing the daily log sheets
  • Maintenance procedures for the water purification system
  • Trouble shooting for pumps, energy source, membranes, filters, piping, tanks, cisterns, etc.

Aguayuda uses this manual to teach the water committee to operate and maintain the water purification system. To assure that the water committee members understand the manual, each topic is presented using various methods and types of exercises. Through this process, we are able to evaluate how well prepared the water committee is to take over the operation and maintenance of the system. If necessary we reinforce certain procedures.
