Many of the communities Aguayuda is involved with have a very low level of education and community members often cannot read or write. Therefore, Aguayuda created the manuals in a format that teaches the most integral concepts of the above-referenced topics in a way that is easy to comprehend on all education levels.

Household Water and Sanitation Solutions
Since its founding in 2006, Aguayuda has discovered many appropriate household water and sanitation solutions. From our experience, we noticed that even if a household does not immediately have access to a community water solution, there are options for families who want to obtain clean water and safe sanitation. Admittedly, there exists a high number of water solutions, and it can be daunting to figure out, which is the best fit for a given family.
Therefore, Aguayuda uses this manual to educate the community on some of the most appropriate, sustainable and affordable solutions for households in rural communities. The households are then able to choose the best solution for their situation. It is important to note that this manual does not include all solutions. As Aguayuda encounters new technology, the manual will be updated accordingly.
Aguayuda is in the process of creating a manual that consists of the following water and sanitation solutions:
Household Water Filters:
- SkyBox™
- LifeStraw® Family Filter
- Lifestraw® Filter
- Biosand Filter
- Ceramic Filter
- Liversaver® – jerrycan
Other Household Water Solutions:
- Rain havesting
- SODIS
- Chlorine
- PUR
- Purikit
- Puriclar
Household Sanitation Solutions:
- Composting Latrine – Double Chamber
- Composting Latrine – Loveable Loo
- Biodigestor
- Constructed Wetland

Waste Management
With few waste collection programs or landfills to dispose of waste, waste management often becomes a major issue for rural communities. Additionally, the lack of education on proper disposal and recycling of trash increases the problem. This then leads to additional negative health and environmental consequences. Many communities become littered with waste, which renders the environment unhealthy and unsanitary for children, adults, and animals. Furthermore, the waste can contaminate surface water sources such as lakes, rivers, and underground aquifers.
To prevent unhealthy and contaminated environments and to protect the community water sources, Aguayuda has created an educational manual consisting of the following essential topics:
- Waste Types
- Importance of Waste Management
- Waste Situation in Your Community
- Waste Collection
- Recycling
- Composting

Microfinance
As a supplement to the education provided for small business development, Aguayuda also works to educate communities about microfinancing. Learning about these options gives these communities viable alternatives to high-interest commercial bank loans. As a result, this education promotes effective development.
Therefore, Aguayuda is developing an educational manual consisting of a guide on how to setup a community bank.
